OK Since we don't really have a set fantasy theme here are some ideas that popped into my head

Malazan Book Of The Fallen
Forgotten Realms
Dark Tower
Chronicles Of The Black Company
Dresden Files
If anyone else comes up with anything I haven't mentioned by all means post it up

Awesome ideas Jimbo, Redwall would be very interesting and there would be many different armies that could be put into play
